Get to Know God

If there is a God, would you say you know Him?

Jesus said in John 17:3 that in order to have eternal life someone needed to know God and His Son whom He had sent.

Jesus explained that in order for a person to know for sure that they have eternal life is to have a personal relationship with God. Another way of thinking about your relationship with God is by recognizing that He is your friend.

If you have or have had a friend, you know how that kind of relationship works, right?

You get to know each other by spending time with one another. The more time you spend with the person, the more you come to trust them.

The Bible says God created us in His image.

Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27).

Part of having God’s image in us means He created us to live with Him forever. Even more importantly, He created us to have a friendship with Him.

That friendship, however, has been marred by our lack of trust in Him. In turn, lack of trust in God always results in disobedience to Him. Just as it is impossible to call someone a friend who keeps violating trust, so we have violated trust in God again and again when we sin.

Only through a friendship with God can we find meaning in life.

Our creator God is the one who can help us live life to the fullest. It is vital to get to know God because only He knows our purpose. He created us, and the closer we get to Him, the more He will reveal all He has in store for our lives.

Another reason to draw close to God is that without a friendship with Him we are hopeless for an eternity with Him. He not only created us to enjoy life with Him now, but also to live with Him forever in Heaven.

Paul wrote to the believers in the city of Ephesus to explain that at one time they were separate from Christ and therefore without hope. But, now that they believed in Jesus, they had been brought near to God through the blood of Christ (ref. Ephesians 2:12-14).

To know God is to have hope for eternal life and to have meaning for this life.

That’s why Jesus said eternal life was to know God (John 17:3).Jesus Christ said in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Knowing God is living life to the full here on earth and having a hope in life eternal when we leave this planet.

Our prayer is that you come to know Him as your friend!
